About The Farm: Finca Santa Clara
Miguel González Sánchez is the owner of Finca Santa Clara. The family acquired this farm back in 1980, and began sowing coffee here. Over the years, many generations of the family have participated in the management of the farm, each one making additional improvements to the processes and technology on the farm.
Miguel and his family hope to continue with coffee and improve productivity on the farm. They also hope to improve the quality each year to boost the family’s income and guarantee and excellent product.
Miguel believes in conserving the environment and the natural resources of the area as part of his work on the farm. He believes the earth itself is a gift from God, and this belief guides him to use the best environmental practices. He shares that “”In every cup of coffee grown on our farm, there is not just coffee but the love of this family!”
About Huehuetenango
Huehuetenango is well-known for its high altitude and consistent weather patterns. The region lies at a nexus of hot air sweeping eastwards from the Plains of Tehuantepec in Oaxaca, Mexico and cool air rushing down from the Cuchumantanes Mountains. The meeting of this hot and cold air creates a microclimate that keeps frost in check and enables coffee cultivation at higher altitudes: coffee production at 2,000 meters above sea level is common. These conditions are perfect for producing the sparkling acidity and distinctive fruit flavors of the region.
